With an early career in the British Merchant Navy, progressing to Master aboard bulk carriers, AHTS and other specialist vessels in the offshore oil and gas industry, in 1997 Cliff joined the UK’s Marine Accident Investigation Branch as an Accident Investigator. In 2004 he took up the post of Maritime Administrator for the Government of Gibraltar., this leading to a 2 year appointment as Chief Executive of Gibraltar Port Authority. In 2008 he returned to the UK to take up the post of Harbour Master and Marine Director for Harwich Haven Authority, which encompasses the UK container port of Felixstowe.
In 2012 he was appointed Marine Director for the Ports Development Company in Jeddah Saudi Arabia, the master planners and developers of the new 20m TEU King Abdullah Port. In May 2015 he took up his current post as Group General Manager of Ras Al Khaimah Ports Group. Cliff Brand was awarded a BSc (Hons) is Shipping Operations from Southampton Solent University; UK, and an MBA in Shipping and Logistics from Middlesex University; UK. He is a Fellow of the Nautical Institute, and a Younger Brother of Trinity House.
