First Block Laid in Saqr Port Expansion

August 1st saw the laying of the first block for the Saqr Port project to create two additional berths capable of accepting capesize vessles and significantly increasing the capacity of the Port.

The first block was laid by principal works contractor BAM International, and this important milestone was attended by members of the RAK Ports team including General Manager Captain Cliff Brand.

The overall project will involve the dredging of the seaward side of the existing breakwater to a depth of 18 meters, the construction of 700 metres of additional quay wall, a reclaimed area 130 metres wide between new and existing quay structures and a 250 meter revetments at one end of the new quay wall.
