Job Title: Equipment Training Co-Ordinator

Job Overview:

The Equipment Training Co-Ordinator is responsible for the administration, development and evaluation of operator & internal stevedores training to maximise productivity, efficiency and safety. The Job holder assesses and conducts both on-site and simulator-based training for new and existing operators/stevedores to help improve operational effectiveness whilst maintaining standards in sustainability, safety and ensuring competency. The Job holder provides one-on-one coaching in the field as required and assists in developing competency-based training programs and plans and maintains equipment training records.

Key Responsibilities 

  • Co-Ordinate, manage, plan and supervise the execution of operator/stevedore’s competency training needs, plans and customised programs to maximise operator productivity.
  • Map out training requirements in conjunction with Port Management, design training plans and schedules.
  • Develop training manuals, assessments, evaluations, and curriculum’s with process and activity owners.
  • Play a lead role in supporting Port Operations to identify skills gaps and create development plans for the equipment operators & stevedores
  • Support the identification of employees with high potential for suggested training together with select tailored training methods (practical, simulated, mentoring, on the job training, professional development classes, etc.)
  • Deliver training through various methods, such as classroom instruction, hands-on practical exercises, simulators, and on-the-job training.
  • Identify relevant legal requirements and incorporate them into training plans.
  • Develop standardized processes, procedures, and materials for a holistic approach across each equipment operator activity area.
  • Support a continuous learning environment and provide appropriate coaching, mentoring and feedback to employees.
  • Conduct hands-on training sessions for equipment operators / stevedores to improve efficiency, competency and drive safe productivity.
  • Train employees on proper techniques and best practices, promoting safe productivity, efficiency and minimizing equipment downtime.
  • Carry out a refresher training program for licensed employees to monitor competency levels and ensure recertification in a timely manner.
  • Ensure the quality of the training and training outcomes meet or exceed standards.
  • Identify, coach, and assist the activities of “On-the-Job Mentors”.
  • Assist with the delivery of other relevant courses as directed by the Operations Manager.
  • Ensure all training is conducted in accordance with Health and Safety Standards.
  • Data Analytics, using OEM digitilisation software tools and assessments.
  • Assess the level of competency of the existing operator to operate equipment.
  • Train operators in the efficient use of relevant equipment’s
  • Upskill operators to alternative, new equipment’s.
  • Provide structure and guidance to operators during simulation. Educate on any introductory information for each scenario that may help participants perform better in the simulations. Presents each scenario to prior to beginning and clarifies information to the participants.
  • In collaboration with the operations Manager and Port Operations Department, develop curriculum, student learning outcomes and educational materials for simulation scenarios and scripts.
  • Participate in the development of simulation training materials such as manuals, online learning modules, self-test instruments, and course materials.
  • Revise and modify simulation training materials as needed.
  • Monitor operator training progress, provide feedback, and address questions or concerns effectively.
  • Maintain accurate records of training plans, activities, competency assessments, evaluations and operator performance including attendance,
  • Develop and maintain Operational Training and Competency Dashboards for presentation to Port Management Daily, Weekly, Monthly.
  • Keep training materials and documentation up to date with the latest equipment specifications, safety guidelines, and regulatory requirements.
  • Liaise with third party accredited training companies as and when required, including the administration of Service Level/Training Agreements for any external training programs.
  • Plan and coordinate travel arrangements for third party training providers where required.
  • Report on operator training, competency gaps and recommend areas of improvement.
  • Allocate training requirements and provide input to the budgeting process.
  • Provision, administration and distribution of:
    • Internal operator training objectives.
    • Routine training reports, statistics & operators’ performance
  • Conform to RAK Ports Departmental & Ports Policies & Procedures.
  • Support the departmental Value Creation & Operational Transformation Initiatives.
  • Support the departmental Operational, Efficiency and Financial Saving Initiatives.
  • Actively drive & support a culture of Safety and Safety Supervision within the department & organisation.
  • Keep up to date with industry knowledge in equipment training and best practice.

Qualifications, Experience and Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Certificated as instructor, training coordinator or more than 5 years’ employment in a similar role
  • At least 5 years’ experience in industrial equipment training.
  • 3-5 years’ experience in a related Supervisory capacity.
  • In-depth knowledge and practical experience in operating MHC, Telescopic Cranes, Forklifts and Loaders in day-to-day port operations
  • Must have extensive knowledge of instructional practices, including teaching materials, testing, and course content
  • Previous experience in a port environment (Preferred)
  • MS Office Proficiency
  • Fluent in English (Read, Write. Speak)
  • Valid UAE heavy equipment driving license (Added advantage)
